"Dear Ms. Him: Thank you so much for sharing your story with me and the world…. Courageous individuals such as yourself help give voice to those who have none and remind us of our obligations to humanity…. You are an inspiring woman."

Sharing the Gift of Storytelling With a Touch of Spunk, Good-natured Teasing, Humor, and Love.

The Chanrithy Him website is devoted to expressing my hopes and dreams through Project Empowerment, while helping others realize and embrace their own. Whether you are an educator, a student, or simply someone looking for inspiration, I hope to educate and inspire you with my widely acclaimed, award-winning memoir, When Broken Glass Floats: Growing Up Under the Khmer Rouge, published by W.W. Norton.

The book has been used for classes in high schools and universities in America and other countries, such as Canada and Romania. Some of the classes include the following: Asian-American History, American Pluralism, Writing, Literature, World Studies, World Issues, Politics, Philosophy, Conflict Resolution in Deeply Divided Societies, Social Studies, and Humanitarian Challenges. Institutions such as PeaceWoman, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, (a project of the U.N. in New York City), Amnesty International, Human Rights, and the CIA library have also acquired it.

Project Empowerment encompasses a number of projects. In time, I hope to fulfill the goals laid out by projects that are currently in the works. One of the main objectives of Project Empowerment is to educate the world about the book, while giving a voice to those who can't speak for themselves, including my beloved parents and siblings. Written from my heart and soul during a painful and lonely journey, this memoir also aims to give Cambodian survivors in the Khmer diaspora a sense of justice, as it informs and inspires with an amazing story about the endurance of the human spirit during the worst of times.

Perhaps you have read the book and are already inspired and empowered by it. Perhaps you are curious, or have an intellectual itch that leads you to wonder; "Hmmm… Is she writing other books? Has she completed the sequel to her first book? Is she married? How can we get in touch with her to ask if she would speak at our high schools, universities, conferences and/or organizations?

I can only imagine what is on your mind. But whatever it is, you are welcome to tour and indulge your sense of curiosity. Return later if you like, and please invite others to stop by and have a look.

May you enjoy your excursion, and may it empower you and those with whom you share the story.
