"Dear Ms. Him: Thank you for your writing and your willingness to speak in person. In a media-saturated Fox-CNN world, students really appreciate "reality" talks… faculty, too!"

-Dr. Claudia Koonz, Department of History, Duke University

Generally, I speak for 30-45 minutes, leaving some time for the audience to ask questions. I give an overview of my life experience as a girl growing up under the Khmer Rouge as described in the book, starting with the normalcy in the relatively peaceful Cambodia until the Vietnam War and the Khmer Rouge regime. In conclusion, I briefly explain details of my personal journey, during which I have learned how to forgive the Khmer Rouge. If interested, I am willing to do book signings free of charge, of course. Copies of my book can be ordered through my publisher at www.wwnorton.com. Please place the order in advance - at least a few weeks before my visit. You can also purchase my book online at www.amazon.com, www.barnesandnoble.com, www.powells.com, or at most bookstores in your area.

In addition to speaking about the book, I also perform the Blessing Dance, a Khmer classical dance, as requested. The dance symbolizes angels descending from heaven to bless mortals with happiness and prosperity.

Fees vary, depending on how many presentations and discussions I am asked to give, plus accommodations such as air fare, hotel, and meals, all arranged by the hosts for out-of-state and international visits. For in-state visits, fees also vary, depending on the destination of the visit, plus accommodations. I do charge fees for dance performances.

I look forward to speaking to and meeting new audiences, as well as old ones who are interested in hearing me again, whom I will be delighted to see.

"Cambodian author Chanrithy Him discussed her experiences of growing up as a young girl in Cambodia when the Khmer Rouge was in power. Her book, When Broken Glass Floats, documents not just the horrors of that period, but also the courage, compassion, and hope that survived in so many. Conference attendees called it unique for NAFSA, helpful to intimately understand other cultures and very important in thinking about conflict and conflict resolution."

-NAFSA: Association of International Educators

"Wonderful session for NAFSA. First person point of view is very important…. Everyone was very appreciative and thankful of this session and requested another one next year!"

-Conference attendees attended the Distinguished Authors Session (featuring Chanrithy Him), sponsored by T.W. Lord & Associates, at the 56th Annual Conference of NAFSA on May 27, 2004

"Dear Chanrithy:
Our students (and we) are still talking about your extraordinary visit - your ability to energize us and bring so much of what we have read together."

-Dr. Claudia Koonz, Duke University
